ADD Family Members

Q:

"My ADD mom and sister drive me crazy with their fast-paced lives, and they get mad when I just want to relax. What can we do?"

A:

The words "mutual understanding" and "respect" come to mind. Thom Hartmann's book, ADD: A Different Perspective, can help you understand each other better and appreciate your differences. If your clashes become a chronic problem, a family therapist knowledgeable about AD/HD may be able to help.

Sandy Maynard lives in Washington, DC where she operates Catalytic Coaching. She was instrumental in the development of The National Attention Deficit Disorder Association's Coaching Guidelines and a founding board member for the Institute for the Advancement of AD/HD Coaching (IAAC). Sandy lectures internationally and is a regular contributor to ADDitude.
