3 Ways To Develop Social Skills

If your child struggles in social situations, use these three strategies to give him the tools to thrive.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. They give shy students a way to connect with peers through a shared activity. Try classes (ballet, karate, science), groups (scouts, theater), and team sports.

SOCIAL SKILLS PROGRAMS. Project ACHIEVE’s “Stop & Think Social Skills Program”; “Skillstreaming the Adolescent”; and “Social Skills Autopsy” are three good ones.

HOME PLAY DATES. Invite three children over to do something your child enjoys. Plan special events: You could have a Cinco de Mayo fiesta or an MTV Video Awards party.
